- Juillet 2025 : Le 23 juillet 2025, la CIJ a rendu son très attendu avis consultatif sur les obligations des États face au changement climatique, en réponse à une demande de l’Assemblée générale des Nations Unies. L’avis précise notamment que : les États ont des obligations juridiques claires issues des traités climatiques (CCNUCC, Accord de Paris…), du droit international coutumier, du droit de la mer et des droits humains ; la responsabilité internationale d’un État peut être engagée en cas de manquement à ces obligations ; les obligations de prévention et de coopération sont désormais considérées comme des obligations erga omnes, engageant l’ensemble de la communauté internationale. Cet avis marque un tournant dans la reconnaissance juridique de la crise climatique et des droits des générations futures. International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals: Achievements and
Challenges”, by Judge Graciela Gatti Santana, President of the
International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals; four lectures in
English and Spanish on “Sovereign Debt Restructuring in relation to International
Law”,
by Mr. Mario J. A. Oyarzábal,
Member of the International Law Commission; and two lectures in English and French
on “International Law and Sustainability”, by Ms. Seline Trevisanut, Professor of
International Law and Sustainability at Utrecht University.
The Codification Division of the Office of Legal Affairs also added the following materials: two lectures in English and French on “The Rights of the Suspect and Accused under the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court”, by Mr. Xavier-Jean Keïta, Former Principal Counsel for the Office of Public Counsel for the Defense at the International Criminal Court; and an Interview in English with Mr. Marcin Czepelak, Secretary General of the Permanent Court of Arbitration, by Ms. Yiwei Lu, on “The Permanent Court of Arbitration’s Contribution to International Law”. - Juillet 2025 : La Cour interaméricaine des droits de l’homme a statué, dans un avis consultatif du 3 juillet, que les pays de l’Organisation des Etats américains (OEA) ont l’obligation d’adopter « toutes les mesures nécessaires » pour protéger les populations face au changement climatique, une décision saluée par les défenseurs de l’environnement.
- Août 2024 : L'avis de droit international du Professeur Marcelo Kohen, mandaté par le Front de Libération National Kanak et Socialiste (FLNKS) à cet effet, sur le dégel unilatéral du corps électoral en Nouvelle-Calédonie, est à lire avec attention par les constitutionnalistes et internationalistes intéressé-es.

- CIJ : le 4 novembre 2022, l’Assemblée générale et le Conseil de sécurité de l’Organisation des Nations Unies ont élu M. Leonardo Nemer Caldeira Brant comme membre de la Cour internationale de Justice, avec effet immédiat. De nationalité brésilienne, M. Brant succède à Antônio Augusto Cançado Trindade, décédé le 29 mai 2022. Conformément à l’article 15 du Statut de la Cour, M. Brant achèvera le mandat de son prédécesseur, qui venait à expiration le 5 février 2027.

- New Lecture on Refugee and Asylum Law at the UN Audiovisual Library of International Law (5 April 2022). The Codification Division of the UN Office of Legal Affairs recently added new materials to the Lecture Series of the Audiovisual Library of International Law: A Lecture entitled “Refugee and Asylum Law: Towards the centrality of Human Rights” by Professor Cecilia Bailliet of the University of Oslo.
- Observance of International Women’s Day at the UN Audiovisual Library of International Law (8 March 2022). In observance of International Women’s Day, the Codification Division of the UN Office of Legal Affairs launched a lecture, in English and Spanish, by Professor Cecilia Bailliet on “Women Refugees and Gender Persecution” / “Mujeres Refugiadas y Persecución de Género”, addressing the challenges that affect refugee women and girls.
- Professeure honoraire au Collège de France et membre de l’Académie des sciences morales et politiques, Mireille Delmas-Marty s’est éteinte le 12 février 2022. Sa disparition a suscité de nombreux hommages, notamment parmi les universitaires, magistrats, avocats et politiques, qui ont salué une juriste brillante et visionnaire, ainsi qu'une inlassable défenseure des libertés publiques. Sa pensée à la recherche d’un droit universalisable propose des repères pour une gouvernance mondiale apaisée et solidaire. Nos pensées et condoléances vont à sa famille et ses proches.

codification du Bureau des affaires juridiques des Nations Unies vient d’ajouter
les ressources suivantes à la Série de conférences du site web de la Médiathèque
de droit international des Nations Unies : une conférence par Paolo Galizzi sur “Air,
Atmosphere and Climate Change” (en
anglais) ; et une conférence par Claudio Grossman sur “Reparations to Individuals
for Violations of International Human Rights Law and International Humanitarian
Law” (en anglais).
